And now for something completely random, highlighting our 6-degrees-of-bellevue-separation:
The President’s official library—of which Chicago, New York, and Hawaii are vying for its location—may have quite the international connection to our sleepy little hamlet. Turns out that celebrated British architect David Adjaye, who designed our very own William O. Lockridge/Bellevue Library—and whom the President has called his favorite architect—is rumored to be the architect of choice for the inevitable winning destination.
Although the University of Chicago and Columbia University in New York are the current favourites to win the bid, Hawaii is hoping to tempt Obama by turning the library into a multi-purpose centre for education, including a Global Youth Leadership Academy and a museum.
All three locations have a personal connection with Obama, who grew up in Honolulu, studied at Columbia and worked in Chicago.
Check out the article and comps for the proposed designs. Fingers crossed that David Adjaye gets it, cuz the brotha is MAD talented!
