And they’re going to buy that prime real estate to install something that Anacostia—and indeed all of Ward 8—have been desperately clamoring for: more affordable housing. Oh . . . wait . . .

Really? More affordable housing in Ward 8?

I’m not sure what some people are smoking, but it’s CLEARLY the good stuff! ‘Cuz although DC needs lots of housing (specifically condos), affordable housing in Ward 8 veritably overflows. The property is on the NE corner of Shannon Place & Howard Road SE, directly across the street from the Anacostia Metro Station, and next to the upcoming Anacostia streetcar line. The location alone is awesome!

What’s really surprising though, is the seeming low sale price for such a prime location (irrespective of what one may think of today’s Anacostia—and even though it’s just for the land), and why it would not be a mixed income development (which doesn’t seem to bode well).

Anyway, more details are sure to emerge, so stay tuned. In the interim, Washington Business Journal has more details.
