I don’t know about y’all, but I couldn’t be more geeked out about the new local 11th Street Bridge being completed any day now! If you haven’t seen it or driven/walked across it yet, you’re doing yourself a disservice, especially since it goes a long way in successfully eradicating the paradigm of separation between the two sides. There’s also a really cool gallery of images over at THE ART of WARd 8 from blogger Charles Wilson, who invites us to discover the new bridge with him ( . . . many, many thanks, my good man).
It—along with the soon-to-be-concurrently-destroyed-and-rebuilt Douglas bridge—bodes as a welcome, positive harbinger of good things to come to our (sometimes unfairly marginalized) side of the river. To wit, there’s a bridge celebration planned for Saturday, September 7th, featuring entertainment, music, food, and education! I—as a very simple, idealistic, and cerebrally-bespectacled kinda guy—have NO PROBLEM being educated on a bridge, on a Saturday, in the middle of the afternoon, while simultaneously (a) being entertained, (b) listening to music, and (c) eating good food! SIGN ME UP . . . and I’ll see y’all there!
